Widdecombe Wants Ballroom Taught in Schools

Arguably this year’s most entertaining Strictly Come Dancing finalist, Ann Widdecombe won over the public with her flamboyant (yet somewhat lacking in grace), energetic performances on the hit show. And now she’s calling for ballroom dancing to be taught in schools. Speaking about the benefits doing so, the politician said;

“Dancing stimulates imagination and teaches discipline and fitness. I stand up and I make speeches for anything up to 45 minutes and I never even consider that I might forget what I am going to say. Trying to string together 30 seconds’ worth of ballroom steps has proven quite a challenge. Trying to remember which one comes next.”

She also claims that ballroom dancing would develop good relationships between boys and girls of school age and improve interaction.

Well, we obviously agree! Many schools are now teaching dance of some sort and given the required level of discipline in ballroom, we think it would be a perfect way to add a bit of variety to school PE lessons.

It’s certainly not out of the question either, with the Government seeking more innovative ways to get kids on their feet and getting fit. And who better to champion the cause than Ann Widdecombe?
